Enjoy a Terrific Turkey Golf Holiday

Turkey is perhaps not the first destination that comes to mind when thinking about a golf break. However, golf tourism in Turkey is a blossoming industry and there’s good reason for its emergence as a country offering some of the best golf breaks available.

Firstly, there is the weather. As the recent British Open at Turnberry will testify; when the sun shines, golf is a wonderfully pleasant game, but when its windy and wet, then the golf course can become a lonely place. With a golf break in Turkey, you are almost guaranteed that the weather will be hot and sunny.

The principal golf courses in Turkey can be found in the Belek-Antalya region of the country which is situated on the south coast, overlooking the Mediterranean Ocean and besides golf the area offers a wealth of cultural sights as you might expect from an area that is steeped in history.

Belek relies heavily on tourism and golf tourists in particular can take advantage of a range of luxury hotels as well as a choice of eleven golf courses. Away from the golf course, the thriving town also offers a range of fine dining, bars and attractions in which to while away the hours. Turkey offers a truly excellent value-for-money experience, not only on the golf course, but also on costs and the food and drink on offer is generally amongst the cheapest yet highest quality to be found anywhere in Europe. What’s more, the populace of Turkey go the extra mile to make sure visitors enjoy their stay to the utmost.

A little farther afield, the region of Antalya, of which Belek finds itself, can boast a wealth of cultural and historical attractions including the ancient Aspendos amphitheater and the Roman ruins at Perge. For a step back in time, visit Side which is only a short drive from Belek. While it is now a resort town, there are still extensive ruins to be seen throughout the town and is one of the country’s best known and important classical sites.

Getting back to golf, the region’s golf courses can rank amongst the best in Europe and a host of famous names can be attributed to the design of golf courses in the region, including David Feherty, Colin Montgomerie and Sir Nick Faldo which include the David Feherty-designed National Golf Club and carves through a forest of eucalyptus and pine trees against a backdrop of the snow-capped Taurus mountains. The National course features an abundance of natural lakes as well as numerous bunkers filled with gleaming white sand; offering a stern challenge to golfers of all abilities.

Other courses in the region include the Sueno Golf Resort, the Cornelia Deluxe Resort whose course was designed by Sir Nick Faldo and incorporates a David Leadbetter academy, and the Five-star Gloria Verde resort.

But whichever of Belek’s fine golf courses you choose to base your Turkey golf holiday around, you can rest assured that you will be well rewarded with an excellent and enjoyable experience, both on the course and away from it. With Turkey and the Belek region in particular now rivaling the Algarve in terms of golfing visitors, Belek and its golf courses will have you returning time and again.

Golfing on the Beautiful Courses of Turkey

When we think of golf, probably Turkey is the last place that comes to our mind. But if you go back in history, you will find that golf has been around in Turkey since 1895. As the number of people visiting Turkey has gone up dramatically in the last few years, golf architects have come up with the idea of designing some of the most excellent golf courses in the world. One activity people enjoy during their vacation is playing golf and with tourism looking upwards in Turkey this is a wonderful way forward. It has become difficult to choose where to play, as numerous world class golf courses have mushroomed in Turkey.

Turkey is situated on the Mediterranean, in the Anatolian region of West Asia. It is a small section of Mediterranean Europe alienated by the Turkish Straits. The country is a vivacious blend of the distant past and a dominating presence of the sea. Flowing from the Northwest through Istanbul, The Bosporus divides Europe from Asia as it merges with Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. This creates breathtaking panorama in the region. The magnificence of Turkey evokes unusual warmth that is soaked in timeless traditions and an aspiration to travel. This exotic land, athwart with spectacular cloud covered mountains, breathtaking valleys, moorland and plateaus, is embossed with the permanent mark of the imprint of the Ottomans and Romans with the numerous gratuitous wars.

Turkey is a live museum with more antiquities than any other place. It will overwhelm you with numerous ruined temples, medieval castles and Islamic architecture. The region is inundated with ceramics, sculpture and sacred frescoes. They shape an exotic reflection of the culture and its people. You can see hooded women and mustachioed men going about their daily routine. Markets here are bustling with fascinating products sold by the most hospitable populace this side of Ireland. The land has turned people into ingenious fishermen, farmers, weavers and businessmen. In fact Turkey is among the very few countries that have surplus production of crops.

Antalya is the most important city on the Turkish Mediterranean coast, and is also the centre of the Turkish Riviera. Around half an hour from Antalya airport, the golfers will discover an amazing golfing sanctuary with four outstanding courses and option of marvelous five star hotels designed along the Mediterranean Sea.

Belek is the budding golf center of Turkey. In fact while designing the layout the golf architects pay a lot of attention to the expectations and preferences of European golfers. Belek is an ideal place for golf courses with its long stretch of sandy golden beaches and untouched natural attractions. It has the perfect ambiance for an exceptional game of relaxed golf with a spirit of competition.

Belek is becoming a contemporary luxurious holiday spot as a paradise for golfers with its summer season lasting for almost 8 to 9 months. The climate is typically Mediterranean with dry and hot summers and moderate and wet winters. The sunshine can be enjoyed from April to October and visitors will find winters extremely pleasant.

Belek is one of the most famous places for the tourism industry in Turkey and is home to a plethora of luxurious hotels, entertainment and other services. When you are in Belek don’t miss the magnificent Kursunlu Waterfall which has more than hundred species of bird nesting around it, with an intriguing hidden cave at the back. There are a number of other historic spots including, Aspendos the ancient amphitheater, which can hold almost 15.000 spectators.

The golf courses at Gloria and the Nobilis in Belek have hosted Turkish Seniors Open and have the European Seniors qualifying school. The best thing about all this is that Turkey offers, simply outstanding value for money.

Playing on the brilliant golf courses in Turkey is an experience at par with the other courses in the world. In fact golf has helped enhance Turkey’s appeal as a winter-sun holiday destination. A country which was almost a stranger to the game of golf at one time is on the way to becoming one of the top golfing destinations by the next decade drawing both holidaymakers and astute golfers from all over the world.

If you thought Turkey was only about history and beaches better think again it will amaze you.

Why Is Turkey Hot?

part from any considerations of climate, Turkey is hot in another very important way. Its resort towns are booming tourist destinations or Europeans as well as North Americans and this looks set to continue for the long term. The benefit to the rental and property market is huge and significant. Some of the more popular destinations are listed below.

Bodrum

Bodrum is a port in Turkey. It is on the Bodrum Peninsula, near the north-west entrance to the gulf of Gökova, and faces the Greek island of Kos. Today, it is a centre of tourism and yachting. The town is a very popular tourist resort for northern Europeans due to its alluring coastline and active nightlife. Every year, at least a few hundred thousand tourists visit Bodrum.

Bodrum has a typical Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot summers and mild winters. The summer season runs from May to October, providing a seawater temperature of up to 23°C and a daily temperature of around 30°C. Summers are hot and dry, and the hottest months are July and August.

The first golf course in the regio, the Vita Golf and Country Club is located in Bodrum. It features an 18 hole PGA standard golf course. A new golf course is to be built by European Golf Design and will be located 25 km from Bodrum, near the village of Mumeular.

Returns of 40 per cent or more per annum in real estate have been reported in Bodrum. Although each case and investment is different, and timing is critical, buying a property in Bodrum has great profit potential with minimal risk.

The two major airports Bodrum and Izmir enable hundreds of thousands of tourists to visit the area. Bodrum itself is located in Mugla province, which has contributed a quarter of all tourism revenue in Turkey, around $2.5 billion (£1.3 billion).

Mugla province has been chosen by the Turkish government as a model so that the it implement a similar real esate form to that used in Spain and other countries. The planned increase in the number of golf courses throughout Bodrum will positively impact rental yields – golf has always brought in tourists.

Ease Of Access

Bodrum has a modern airport, with several flights from Istanbul arriving daily. The airport is about 36 km north-east of Bodrum, a short, 30 minute drive. Thomas Cook operates direct flights to Bodrum from May to October from several UK airports, including: Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle. Bodrum can be reached by sea from Kos and Rhodes (Greek Islands). Daily ferryboat and hydrofoil services from Kos and Rhodes to Bodrum are available during the summer season. By road, there are many intercity bus companies that operate bus services to Bodrum from other major Turkish cities such as Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Bursa and Konya.

Belek Belek lies between Antalya and Alanya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. It was recently chosen as the ‘model for tourism for the next 1,000 years’ by the Turkish Ministry for

Tourism.

Belek is located in Antalya province and is nicknamed the ‘Turkish Riviera’ because of its’s role as Turkey’s tourism capital. Belek is host to 32 four or five star hotels and 6 golf courses, including the National Golf Club, which was designed by Ryder Cup player, David Feherty, and there are plans for another 15.

In fact, Belek’s aim is to become the premier golfing region in the whole of Turkey over the next few years, and the massive development projects that are currently under progress should help this become a reality. Golf legend Nick Faldo is even designing a 27 hole, signature golf course at the Cornelia De Luxe Resort in Belek, scheduled for opening in late 2006. The resort itself will feature its own premium tier, 300 bedroom hotel and a number of associated golf villas.

Belek has a prosperous economy. Antalya international airport is planning 2 new terminals to handle the increased passenger traffic. An interlink coastal route, costing around $1 billion (£5 billion), has also been built

Also, the $40 million (£20.5 million) Tourist Roads and Rehabilitation Programme will improve the roads to cater for the expected increase in the number of visitors to the region.

Belek is host to 6 golf courses – including the National Golf Club – with a further 6 currently under construction. In 2005, foreign property investment rose by 40 per cent. The British form a major component of these investors. Other countries include: Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Detached villas with private pools and easy beach access were the most popular choice.

New golf villas can be priced up to EUR150,000 (£100,733), which makes them very reasonable when compared to other parts of Europe. Belek has a number of world class golf courses, including the Turkish National Golf Club in addition to 5 others, including: The Pasha – a stunning landscape with undulating greens, The Sultan – golf in a forest environment and the Gloria Golf Resort situated beside the sea with wide, challenging fairways and water hazards.

The government plans to put in another 15 courses over the next 10 years with golf legends Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus overseeing the design of 2 of the courses. As golf has always been a major factor in the success of property markets across the world, these developments will establish Belek even more firmly as one of the world’s foremost golfing resorts.

Ease Of Access

Belek is just under 4 hours’ flight time from London and only 3 hours’ flight time from mainland Europe. The nearest international airport is in Antalya, which is approximately 30 minutes away and is the second busiest airport on the Mediterranean coastline.

Altinkum

Altinkum is located on Turkey’s south Aegean Coast; Altinkum is heavily frequented by British holiday package tourists. Altinkum differs from Bodrum because it is small and quiet, making it perfect for families who prefer a much quieter and slower pace. The resort town’s main attractions are its three long sandy beaches that stretch from the small harbor at one end of a gently shelving bay to a rocky cliff at the other end. The name Altinkum means ‘golden sands’.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has designated a series of Tourism Development Areas along the coast, where state land is being sold to developers as part of a series of master plans. The government will be making considerable infrastructure investment in these areas and they promise good potential returns.

Altinkum is one such area to watch. As it is close to Bodrum, it benefits from the economic investments outlined previously for Bodrum.

Ease Of Access Altinkum is 1 hour 30 minutes transfer from Bodrum Airport and 1 hour 45 minutes from Izmir Airport. There are ferries to Bodrum from Altinkum Didim daily in the summer time. Altinkum’s marina is currently under construction.

With resorts such as these no wonder Turkey is Europe’s hottest country.

Investment Property in Turkey – Investing in Turkey

Investment Property in Turkey is best described as a ‘recently modern’ country. An ideal tourist location, Turkey has a huge young population at its disposal, which makes the country a perfect growth-oriented nation. As a European Union (EU) Candidate country, Turkey’s economic growth is virtually assured in the years to come

What Makes Turkey Hot Investment Destination?

Turkey is a vast country with an immense reservoir of naturally alluring features. With over 7000 kilometers of beautiful coastline and a Mediterranean climate, Turkey offers the perfect tourist destination. Turkey is particularly jam-packed with tourists during summers with more than 300-days of uninterrupted sunshine. Resultantly, the coastal resort towns of Altinkum, Bodrum, Kusadasi, Marmaris, Fethiye and others offer maximum returns on investment in rental property.

Turkey was historically, a closed society with not too many opportunities for foreign investment. But, with the advent of globalization, the world has become almost a large town, and the concept of being ‘Glocal’ aggressively pursued by international governments, Turkey has opened its doors for foreign property buyers. Since 2003, foreign investors have been making a beeline for Turkish real estate as a result of liberal investment laws ushered in the country.

Turkey has also been aggressively pursuing its candidacy for European Union membership. Once it becomes a member, the Turkish economy is expected to soar to newer heights. More importantly, real estate prices are expected to reach new heights once the country becomes an EU member. Therefore, the investors suggest that the ideal time to buy Turkish property is now, when the nation is on the verge of development.

More than half of the Turkish population is under the age of 25 years. This means that ‘young’ Turkey is poised to take the country to the next level of development. Perhaps, this explains that the real estate prices in major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Konya, Bursa, Adana, Antalya and Mersin have already soared. The demand has already outscored the supply of available tradable property in these cities, due to influx of migrant population from the countryside in search of jobs.

Turkey has adopted the European building standards and regulations for its new constructions. This is primarily done to lure the European investors into making Turkey their second home. The European standards are among the best and the most investor-friendly yardsticks. Not only do these standards inspire confidence in the potential investors, but also ensure a planned development resulting in the overall better living standards for the residents in the region.

Turkey has the remnants of one of the oldest settlements in the region, with traces of ancient Greek, Roman, Persian, Arabic and Byzantine culture still pervasive in some parts of the country. This also adds to the charm of Turkey for the potential foreign investors.

The price of real estate in Turkey as compared to other European countries has always been the talking point among the real estate dealers and investors. It is often said that prices in Turkey are the same as in Spain, if you knocked a zero off, and there are people who say that property prices in Turkey are 10 years behind those in Spain. The situation is not so rosy as it seems. Though prices of real estate in Turkey are still far less than countries, like Spain, yet with promised developments and booming economy, things will not remain like this forever.

Hottest Investment Destinations in TurkeyAs mentioned earlier, the major cities of turkey are already choc-a-bloc. And fortunately, the country’s long coastline offers maximum investment opportunities in terms of rentable and saleable holiday homes, villas, and luxurious homes and apartments.

The southern resorts of Fethiye and Marmaris are currently the best property investment destinations in the entire country, closely followed by the northern Bodrum and Cesme Peninsulas.

Surrounded by mountains, water and lush forests, Fethiye is a great coastal town to invest in tourist-related property. The picturesque location of this town means that the tourists are always checking-in and checking-out of Fethiye all the year round. Dalaman is the nearest airport to Fethiye. Dalaman Airport (DLM) has regular daily flights to Istanbul and a number of weekly direct and connecting flights to London and other major European cities.

The Bodrum Peninsula is another popular spot and is known as “the new San Tropez”, where wooded countryside meets the shore in a series of glorious bays and pretty fishing villages.

Cesme Peninsula is within touching distance to the Greek islands and most people use Izmir as a closer airport than going via Greece. The region is already on the development radar with golf courses and residential homes being planned around the village of Alacati.

Calis is another fast developing coastal beach town. This resort village is an ideal location for investors looking for rental property as well as those looking for a beachfront home, with a steady flow of tourists.
